The Door as a System
A lock is only as secure as the door and frame it is mounted in. Effective door security requires viewing the entire entry point as a unified system.
- The Frame: Must be structurally sound to hold the strike plate securely.
- The Door Material: Solid timber or reinforced composite provides better anchoring for locks than hollow core doors.
- The Hardware: Handles, hinges, and letterboxes should not present easy vulnerabilities.
- The Lock: Must be appropriately rated and correctly installed to bind the door to the frame effectively.
